You know, someting very similar happend to me in my
Scirocco when I first got it. Go to start the car in 
mornin' and I check nothing. Tried jumping, nothing.
I poped the clutch and got it going, but then it would
radomly die, so I left it alone. After racking my brain
for hours, I look at the starter and I could see a little yellow wire
dangling free. I connect it back to
where it was and sure enough, she starts on a dime!
