exhaust part question, mine broke

getting a god awful rasp, slid under and saw on my 8v 81S a slight 
rip in the metal pipe, just before the cat. it's a, well how does one 
describe, it's a "ribbed for her pleasure" pipe ? anways is this the 
flex piece? one end conencts to the 2-1 downppe and the other to the 
cat by way of triple bolt pattern. i just want to replace this with a 
strait pipe since 1> it will be cheaper than a flex joint 2> the 
engine/exhaust prob wont be in there after 6 more motnhs 3> it looks 
pretty damn secure. is it advised not to seek this action or will the 
ribbed part replaced with a strait pipe be ok for a while? anyone
with experiences (the exhaust that is )...
