New List Member

I'm a new member to this list and first of all let me tell you it's
great to know there's other enthusiasts out there, so a big downshift
BLAAAP to all of you! I now own an '83 Scirocco GT after spending the
last 5 years in A1 Jettas. When it fell into my hands for $400 CDN a
year ago, the car had one foot in the scrapyard grave but I brought it
back from the dead. It's been well worth it and only needs some
bodywork and paint job now. I'm still not sure what the GT means, its a
Canadian model and it
has the 1.8 L engine from the factory. Maybe someone can shed some
light on this?
It's been very interesting following your posts for the last week and
now I have some questions for all of you. I am planning to install the
rear disc brakes because I got all the parts for free so I'm wondering
if this is a hard job or not. Some technical points I can think of
include what type of proportioning valve I should use, where its located
on the car and what e-brake cables should I use? Any comments would be
appreciated, technical or otherwise.
Another job I will soon attempt is to install a dual-downpipe manifold
and pipe, retain the cat, and install a 2" exhaust w/ a Dynomax Super
Turbo muffler. How much power will this gain me and how much more of a
gain would I get from adding the short-style TT downpipe?
One final question I have is who on the list is from the Toronto, Canada
area (GTA)? I live downtown and would like to hear from some locals cuz
I'd like to hook up for a cruise or whatever else you guys like to do
VW-wise. I know some VW freaks west of the city that bomb around town
in the summer and it would be cool to hook everyone up and force all the
Hondas off Yonge Street sometime. Show them what REAL engineering is
all about!
Anyway, I won't take up anymore bandwidth. So thanks for listening to a
list newbie and I look forward to hearing from all you Rocco dudes.

TIA
