[tech] vaccuum lines

hey-

Gonna replace my vaccuum lines tomorrow to try and clear up my motor's 
'misses'.

The line frim the dist. has a 'T' in it. One side goes to the manifold 
and the other goes to a little circle with wires running to 
it(upshift?), then to the 'little white UFO' hanging onto the boot 
before the TB.

Can I just ditch the 'T', the shift light thing and cap off the 'UFO' to 
make it simpler?

What size is the tubing? should I use the factory plastic piece or can I 
just run fresh vaccuum hose up to the manifold?

BTW- the car has no charcoal canister or that big tank in the pass. 
wheel well. Again, its a 84 Jetta GLI, 1.8 JH motor.
