The solid lifters have shims on top, i.e. between the main part of the
lifter & the cam lobe. There is a special tool you can use to remove
them but you can use a screwdriver to pop them out easily enough.
Adjustment is done by measuring the gap between the cam lobe (check your
bentley for the position that the cam lobe is supposed to be at, I can't
remember offhand but I think it is pointed end straight up!) and the
shim. If it is too big you need to put in a thicker shim, too narrow, a
thinner shim. You'll need a micrometer to measure the shim thickness -
I don't know if shim wear is significant but often enough the size
marking will be worn off anyway. Once you know what size your existing
shim is and what the gap is, you can calculate the size needed and use
the nearest match replacement. Last time I did it it was < 1 hour job.
