Re: Konig rims [sorta long]
Well, this question seems directly aimed at me, so I'll answer ya!
About a year ago I got 15x6.5" Konig tuners with the 38et offset for $105 a
peice from (guess where??) Discount Tire! :) My wheels have been
_extremely_ durable, I had some 195/50 yoko 509's on there and late one
Saturday night at the street races I nailed a HUGE pothole at about 45 mph
so bad I thought I broke the suspention! I pulled over, got out and looked
at the wheels, and there was not a scratch on them, boy was I lucky! I was
running about 38psi pressure just for such occasions and it worked.
At that time I worked at an autoparts store and the next day a guy with a
lowered riced out toyota paseo came it asking for a CV joint. we talk for a
while and it ends up, that _same_ pothole busted his cv joint. So thats my
little story on how tough the Konigs have been for me
I like the deep lip a lot too, I dont think the looks can be beat on my
Mk1, the angularity of the wheel goes perfectly with the angular MkI! :)
you can also get those center caps in red, blue or silver.
My only complaint is that the wheels aren't easy to clean, but it's a small
price to pay.
The other problem I've had is the I got the new wheel bolts from discount
Tire direct(the VW bolts dont work, they're a ball seat, Konigs need
tapered), they were 'Gorilla" brand and on the first set I broke about 8
lug bolts until I called and they sent me out a new set on which I proceded
to break 2 more. finally I had to go to Off road Warehouse and get a set of
wheel Studs/lug nuts for a Beetle which I've had no problems with.
Mine aren't for sale tho!

Thing is I don't knoww didley 'bout Konigs---are they durable? I am
thinking about getting 15" so I figure there should still be a good amount
of rubber to protect the rim. Here in the Washington, DC area the roads
can get pretty nasty.

the 15" x 6.5" Konig Tuner rim w/ no tires, just the rim. Question is, is
this a good price? What about getting rims at swap meets? I am trying to
get a nice set of rims for as cheap as I can. The other one I liked was
the Konig GTR and they were $5 cheaper a piece. I like the deep lip both
of those rims have.
