    Yeah, I have heard the same thing about Brighter wattage bulbs but I
  dont want to go insanely bright like 50 watts, I am looking more like
  30 watts or so.  I want it brighter because living in Seattle we get  
swamped with rainy weather all the time, at least the last 2 or 3
weeks   has been continuous rain, and when your tail lights get dirty,
they dont
  seem as bright as normal, so I would like something brighter for
safety     purposes.  I think non-continuous use of the 30 watt would be
okay, IMHO.   I sent a message to Daniel Stern, of Sternz lighting, he
had this to say

   "Use 3496 instead of 1157.  Use 3497 instead of 1156.  Use an
auxiliary
    backup lamp if you can't see."

   I am not sure of the wattage on these, but I am gonna find out soon.
