Depends on how bad the leaks are. The valve cover gasket is relatively
easy to replace. (Depending on your
skills/tools/patience/attitude/beer/GF-BF or whatever.. ) It is possible
to install a new o-ring on the intermediate shaft end cap without
removing the engine.
When I first rebuilt my 1.7L I forgot to install the o-ring on the
intermediate shaft and it took me a long time to figure out why and where
I was leaking so much oil onto my FR rotor when I autoxed. Damn thing
would catch on fire after my 3rd runs. O-rings; kinda important. HTH!!
