Do you have A/C?  If so, check the hoses.  A friend of mine had an early 
MKII that he used as his beater car.  He drove around with a glass bottle 
in his passenger seat foot well to collect the water coming from his A/C.

i recently started getting a dampness behind and under the rear and
passneger seats, the drivers side dried up but the passenger side is
getting worse. i keep wiping it up and noticing one or two days later
that it wet again. I have a sunroof and checked that no leaks, anyway
i can't figure out where it is coming from....help!!
