Tech: Tarnsfer pumps and fuel tanks
OK, I have heard from several SciroccoII owners that the in-tank transfer
pump appeared sometime in 1984 models.
A call to the local VW parts priest reveals that a VIN range covering
early '84 to mid '85 uses one style of transfer pump, while '85.5 + uses
the same style of transfer pump found in A2 Golfs and Jettas.
It would appear based on this info that there was a change in the tanks
used in Sciroccos at this time - if nothing else than the way the
sender/transfer pump is installed in the tank. Another change may
have been a larger capacity ...?
Can anyone verify (through experience or even educated guess) that the
Scirocco tank is interchangeable physically with the standard A1 fuel
tank? Are all MKII Scirocco tanks mounted the same: are 1986> 'Rocco
tanks still installed under the back seat, mainly under and ahead of the
rear axle beam?
Please direct your replies to my email address as well as the list, for
those who may also be interested in these inane hypothetical ramblings.
