Kinda forget about the H on the back for a min.

The North American 1981 Scirocco came from the factory with a 1.7 liter
engine. It is base on the previous 1.6L block, boreded out as I
understand it.

This limits how much you can increase this block's displacment and one
of the main reasons people say just jump up to 1.8 or 2.0 to base
performance mods on.
