because you said the paint was thick, I would use Turtle Wax RUBBING 
Compound. it is like the polishing compound, but more abrasive. basically 
they are sand paper in a paste form. they work wonders. you must be very 
careful when using these b/c if you apply too much pressure, you will cut 
through the car's paint. after you remove all of the house paint, I would use 
Meguier's cleaning compound, then wheel it out. HTH!
