Gauge faces

Well my gauge faces are on the way (Brett owns you!). Anyways, I've got a
quick question, a buddy of mine who had a jetta with my same gauges said
when he took his apart once for something and took off the speedo needle,
some spring unwinds in there and takes a shitload of adjusting to get back
to normal...is this true if i follow brett's directions? Any way to avoid if
so? Suggestions...Comments...etc TIA - I have the 120mph 7k RPM speedo btw.
