Vinyl Repair Kit (like in the '70s TV Commercial)
I tried one of those repair kits on a seat I got that had a nasty
V-shaped tear, right on the head rest. I am really impressed with the
results. Mind you, it's not quite a no-brainer, and it does require a bit of
technique. Experiment first on something that you aren't trying to save. The
process involves a clear goo application, then a colored goo application,
then a careful ironing, through a texturizing layer thingy. The kit that I
bought was a cheapie, and only cost about 6 bucks. As such, the "iron" it
came with was almost like a thumbtack stuck into a pencil. I had to
constantly stop to heat it back up, and I couldn't control the temp well
enough... I am impressed enough with the process though, that I'm gonna get
me one of them little hobby irons, and with that I bet I'll be able to make
it come out like it does on TV...
I give it a big thumbs up.
