5000 mile update and sudden problem
Well, I was all set to post my happiness at hitting
the 5000 mile
mark (well, 5000 of my OWN miles :-)) on my 84 8v,
and don't
get me wrong, I'm in LOVE with this car, but
something happened
yesterday and my poor roc is sick.
Anytime I let the engine rev free, revs will
plummet and it dies. I can
carefully feed it gas to start it, and it's okay to
drive on the highway
etc, but even if I clutch in to brake, the engine
will die .. so I've been
practising my left-foot braking a lot more recently
:-) so that I can feed
it enough throttle to keep it running @ 1000
rpm.
Am I a victim of the nefarious fuel-pump? I
think the original is still
on there. I also haven't changed the fuel
pump since I bought the
car (just about the only do it yourself thing I
haven't had the bravery ...
or stupidity .. to try).
For the last couple of weeks the rpms would drop
very low when starting
and then stabilize .. I thought perhaps since I had
been using 92 octane
instead of 94 (what was I thinking?). I now
think it was a brief lag before
pressure built and fuel could be
delivered.
Any thoughts listers? I have had a wonderful
first three months with the
car and want to keep it, and me, happy.
Thanks to all.
cheers
Nathan
