speedometer calibrated wrong?

my scirocco is plenty fast, quite a bit faster than the v6 camaro i
owned previously, but driving along lately i noticed im always getting
passed so i had a friend drive 60 steadily and i matched his speed... 
what do you know.. im doing 70 to match his 60.. any clue what could be
causing this and how i could fix it?
