Anchoring child safety seat in rear seat of Scirocco

I know that this question is probably not relevant for a good percentage
of the single Scirocco owners out there - but has anyone had occasion to
anchor a child safety seat in the rear seat of their MkII ?  I've finally
come to the decision to trade out my 84 GLI, which is in need of excessive
body work, for the 84 Wolfsburg that is waiting in the wings, and it's
down to this last issue.  As the Scirocco would be backup transportation
for my '83 Jetta as well as 'pleasure use', as my Insurance Company so
aptly puts it (obviously a class reserved for VW owners), I will need the
ability to anchor the seat for our toddler son. 

What I have considered is modifying the child-restraint bar out of a '92
Golf to the mounting points for the lower anchor of the rear shoulder belt
(assuming the 84 Scirocco has these? - the A1 Jetta does - I haven't
looked yet at the Scirocco).  As it did in our Golf (which is why I took
it out) this bar will make it impossible to carry large (ie. 30 inch TV)
cargo in the hatch - but hey - it's a Scirocco, not a Rabbit, right? 

I would appreciate any personal experience on the subject - I'd hate to
deprive my son of the pleasure of a Scirocco ride until he's 8 years old!
