Mystery idle....

a months ago i had my oxs sensor replace and a hunting idle fixed. Now
it seems like the idle is possesed. The idle never stays constant. This
is how it goes- i start up my car it idles at 600, i drive for 5 minutes
it idles at 1800, i drive some more it idles at 900, i drive some more
and it will idle at 1400. i know when i have been driving over 70mph for
a period and then come to a stop the car alway idles high around 1900.
Now, i took it to the shop a months ago and they replaces the oxs,
cleaned out and serviced the throttle body to fix the hunting idle and
set my idle VW spec 975rpm. Nothing went wrong for a week then i took
the car on a 5 hour trip where i was cruising at 80mph thats when the
idle shot up all the way to 2500. i took it back to the shop and they
said the idle screw was pushed all the way over to 2500, (and that some
one was messing with my idle)i know for sure i didnt mess with the idle
adjustment or anyone else. So they readjusted the idle and reset the
airbox( thats what the told me) They didnt charge me. they also told me
that car could be doing that becuase my airbox is leaking and a to
replace it, it would be $600. So here i am again with a idle that keeps
on changing.(600 to 1800 to to 1400 ec) What could be wrong?
