mk1 ac removal

okok so i didnt save the prev e-mails sorry..but

when i go to remove the big square (york?)  compressor
can i just remove it and the block bracket? will the alternator
fall off to or will it be OK? damn ac system didnt hold the freon so 
i'm wanting to ditch it.

i should also be able to move the alternator and brackets 
and...?waterpump? system over to my 16v?? that would be prime to have 
the alternator down there then score some brackets for a supercharger 
install...
