Re: [Non-Scirocco] When was the first Rabbit built??

Fact:

The first Golf (rest of world) was available in 1974.
The first Rabbit in the U.S. was a 1975 Model (late '74?)

Opinion:

I don't think the problem with Bugs was emissions, but more a problem in
meeting safety standards.

Moving from the Bug to the A1 Golf platform eased production at Karmann,
as all of their product was now (in 1980) A1 chassis (Scirocco & Golf
Convertible).

The Rabbit (golf I) 'Vert was introduced in 1980, acording to "Car Of
THe Century", by JT Garwood. It went through 3 body designs that year
only, due to leaking. The last of the Air Cooled (type 1) 'verts was in
'80, but they all came into the country with VIN#'s that said they were
79's. VW could have made the Bug pass the emissions bu cleaning up the
exhaust, but by then they were committed to making the rabbit with its
inexpensive flat panels, rather than the complex panels of the bug.

More info than you needed, huh? I guess I coulda just said...'Er, a ,
its a misprint!'

Maybe its a 67 bug vert with a rabbit emblem...BUY IT! They're RARE!
