idle stabilizer maintenance?

hey people, has anyone ever cleaned their idle stabilizer(IS)?  i'm
assuming that this is only a 16V thing, but i dunno for sure.

	anyways, i heard that one should take the IS off and spray it full of
carb or injector cleaner to remove all the mung and crap that gets stuck
up in there over time.

	at the present time, my idle stays at about 1700 to 1800rpm.  it's been
like this for about a year at least.  my mechanic told me that if i tap
the IS with a hammer, and the idle goes down, then the unit is pooched. 
however, a bud of mine said to spray it out, and all will be solved.

	any nay or yay-sayers on this?  thanx.
