I'm going to contribute something POSITIVE to this thread : )
There is a really cool cop in our town. Every cop should think like him. He
approaches his job as he should -he's protecting the public and upholding the law.
However, he puts reason before absolute adherence to the law.
My brother once got in an accident which was his own fault. He was mad, and
driving a 280Z. Bad combination. He was going 90mph in a 35mph zone on a twisty
back road, bent down to fiddle with his radio, looked up, whoops, corner!
overcorrected, got sideways, slid sideways off the road into a farmer's field,
taking 18 fenceposts with him (little puny ones). Landed in a pile of cow shit.
Heh! Anyway, this cop showed up, calmed him down, asked him if he was OK, worked
with him to figure out how to get the car home, etc... and said that it looked
like he'd learned his lesson, so didn't give him a ticket.
Next time we see him, he pulls us over for lack of a license plate light. My
brother's driving. He can't find his license. And I can't find the registration
for the car (my GTI). Whoops. Eh, no problem. He radios it in and chats with my
brother about his 280Z while he waits for a response. He even asks my brother if
his dad was pissed and wonders whether he's gotten the car back on the road. He
then tells me that if I can't find my registration, just go get another copy at
the DMV. Says the same to my bro about his license. Then he tells me to get the
license plate light fixed. I fixed it as soon as I got home, and found my reg,
too. My bro still hasn't found his license, even though it's since been officially
revoked, and it doesn't get on its way to being reinstated until he turns it in...
eh, he's a funny guy : )
Anyway, all cops should be like that...
There ARE cool cops out there!
