Hey Mike,
What's this?! I live in PA, and have tint, and would love to hear more
about this...
I got pulled over last year for tint, and the guy let me go. The reason
he let me go, however, was because of the incredibly ingenious sob story I
laid on him. First of all, I have him my Florida license as well, and
explained to him that I was an out-of state student. He said it didn't
matter cause my car was registered in PA.
I then explained to him that I had just bought the car in FL, and that
this tint job is legal there (it indeed is, I have 35% on all side windows,
20% on the hatch, with 35% below the spoiler on the hatch for visibility
while backing up at night). Anyways, he was again like "don't matter- your
car is registered in PA, you have to stick to PA rules, which are, no tint
at all."
So, quick thinking Jason suddenly looks like he's gonna start crying.
With a sad look on my face, I say, officer, the truth of the matter is that
I don't have enough money to have the tint taken off... if they peel it
off, it will take the defroster elements with it, and then I will have no
defroster. So the only way to do it would be to replace the back window.
And he's like "So, what could that cost? $150?" I said, "No officer, it's
about $950"... he's like "you're full of it", and I go "See how that window
curves like that? And see how there has to be a hole for the wiper? That's
why". Well, he bought it, and I left with a verbal warning. Had he given
me a written warning, I would have had 10 days to show up at the precinct
and show him that the tint had been removed... that woulda SUCKED... but of
course I probably would have just borrowed someone else's car to bring
there. No *way* my tint is coming off. :)
