I don't think you'll have any problem. I recently switched cylinder heads
on my '85, so I went through pretty much exactly what you will. I had
never done anything that "big" to my car before (my first car, bought it
4 months ago) and I didn't run into any major problems. My points of
advice:
Take a good look at your engine first, plan out your actions in
advance. Videotaping is a good idea.
Buy all of the things that you will need. The cylinder head bolts are
a must. Techtonics sold me an entire cylinder head gasket kit for $85.
This had all of the basics gaskets and seals that were needed. The head
bolts were then $3 apiece.
Torque all the bolts right, and follow the tightening sequence.
Make sure all of your peripherals are attached when done. I forgot to
fully tighten one of the radiator hoses, so I leaked water for a few
days before I could find the spot.
It's all pretty simple. The problems I ran into was that I couldn't
get the intake manifold bolts off. So I had to disconnect everything
from the intake/TB and remove the head/intake as a unit. While on this
topic, the bolts for the intake and exhaust manifold are somewhat tight
to get to. Be patient. Also my car idled fast the week after it was all
back together, and after a checking everything twice I saw that the
connector to the auxillary air regulator was not reconnected. Minor
things like that.
Good luck.
Also, before you go out and buy yourself a new Oxygen sensor, the Oxygen
sensor is mounted in the exhaust manifold. I think the sensor that you
are thinking of is the oil pressure sensor for the warning light. It is
in the cylinder head end, on the #4 cylinder side. Unless it is leaking
there is no need to replace it, except if you want to get a gauge and
pressure sender pack. I did that too, so let me know if you are planning
that and want my input.
sorry for the long post, but hope it was helpful.
