As far as I know (No real experience with these partictular shocks) these
shocks will work just fine with stock springs. Especially when your on a
tight budget. :) (Been there, done that too.) 

Changing them is another story. Not only will you need a spring
compressor but you will also need a big pipe wrench (to take off the bug
nut that holds the insert in the strut tube) and also a front end
alignment when your all done. 

Its also a good idea to buy new upper strut bearings wince they are
likely worn out too. Its a good idea to replace these since you will have
it all apart. (or your mechanic) 

The front springs do need to be compressed and typically an impact wrench
is also needed to break the torque on the nut holding the entire assy
together. The rear springs are much easier to remove, but can still
require the aid of the spring compressor. I've just used my weight (all
6'0" 155 lbs of me.) on the rear springs and loosened the top nut until
it came apart, Theres much more tension on the front springs than the
rear, dont try this method on the front stock springs. (it will launch
your butt over your house!)
