You need to figure out where the oil is coming from to spray it all over your engine bay. It could be coming from
anywhere from a leaky valve cover cap to an intermediate shaft seal. Who knows? Any number of things can blow oil
all over your engine compartment. Even PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) could possibly do this.
I ran into a rather amazing problem recently with blowing oil all over the place. It was on an '83 Rabbit. I
don't want to scare you, just show you how many different reasons there can be for this. It was blowing oil out
of the top of the valve cover, through the cap where you fill the oil. I'd never seen this before, and just
couldn't figure out what would cause such massive amounts of pressure under the valve cover. So I thought that
maybe it was massive amounts of blowby at the rings. So I checked the compression. 140-50-60-90. Heh! There's the
problem. Should have been 130 to 140 all the way across. No wonder it ran like crap no matter what I did. It was
just blowing so much pressure by the rings that it was creating huge pressures in the oil passages. Craziness.
So get it checked out, or fill the engine with oil and run it and look, see if you can figure out where all
the oil is coming from.
Good luck!
