Xenon bulbs / U.S. spec lights

Hi,

Has anyone used the new H4 replacement Xenon bulbs?  My lights are 
pretty poor.  I haven't got round to bypassing the fusebox,etc, with 
additional relays, which would make a difference, but I was just 
wondering what milage there is in upgrading to these bulbs.

Also, my other scirocco ('86 GT) came to me fitted with lights which 
look like U.S. spec lights but which I think came off a nissan mini-van.  
Are the older (~85/86) US lights sealed units and are they Hella? 
They are mounted on what looks like the original euro-light plates, with 
modifications to cater for the different mounting points.
The lenses have 'made in japan' on them but otherwise look exactly like 
newer Hella units I have seen on similar Japanese vans.
