sluggish...timing?

ok, i pulled the power steering pump off my 87 16v last week and replaced
it along with the belt......and now, it seems to have a poor
idle....(rises and falls and is sluggish in the low rpm range)....it ran
near perfect before i did this, so i dont suspect either of the fuel
pumps......althought it could jsut be coincidence......

when i was smoothing out some nicks in one of the crank pulleys,  the
crank turned a bit....(and the tranny was in gear)....could i have screwed
up the timing a little bit while doing this?......any other suggestions?
