...At 2AM Saturday nite alongside the highway...

I need a new motor! I need some basic help on what to look for in a used 
engine...

I definately want to upgrade my 1600 to at least an 1.8, but should I go 
as big as a 2.0 (like an A2 Crossflow) or a GTI engine? What will I have 
to replace as far as the fuel system if I do go that big? 

They're gonna charge me $1000 and change for the 1600 replacement, and 
about $1500 for an 1800 (installation included), this is in canadian 
funds. And if I tear off the head what should I be wary of, as well...

Also, would I have to swtich to a manual trans if I went higher than an 
1800?
