I'm sorry, but do you REALLY think a stern talking from a total stranger
would make some thief see the error in his ways? If so, you've been
watching too much TV:)
We started out talking(ok yelling and accusing), he immediately went into
a deny it mode, even though I saw him from just a few feet away in my
buddies Jeep. I knew it was my buddies Jeep. I knew this guy had no
business being in it, it looked like he was trying to get at the radio in
the dash. So the guy tries to deny it and then ran off towards the housing
projects. He wasn't going to stand around and discuss this. The only way
he'd get caught is if we could get police response in just a few seconds.
Fat chance of that! Freaknik resulted in massive traffic jams all around
downtown Atlanta, and there were alot of other problems for the cops to
deal with. The only other option would be for us to hold him. If the guys
in the car hadn't come along, I would've held him for the police after I
subdued him. Maybe you haven't been involved in situations like this
before, but criminals don't just sit around waiting for the cops to come
pick them up. Dealing with them requires making quick decisions. Doing the
wrong thing, or not acting quickly enough, is just as good as doing nothing
about it. I would be mad if you saw someone breaking into my car and did
nothing about it. Don't take this as a flame, its just the reality of a
situation like this.
