Hello!
'Just a quick hello from a new lister--a non-boy-type, but
none-the-less vehement when it comes to defending my Scirocco!
And yes, I can wield a wrench now and then, if it doesn't involve
anything more serious than checking a thermostat or tightening a
belt. I think if you own a VW, you WILL end up wielding a wrench.
For a time I lived in a town small enough where there were no
mechanics who would touch a Volkswagon of any model--even water
cooled, so I had to learn to fix a few things on my own! I do
love my '79 roc, though. I can remember back to when I was a very
little girl, seeing one on a commercial for the first time--it was
during the Olympics, and VW introduced the Rabbit, the Dasher, and
the Scirocco all in one tv ad. I quickly identified which one I
wanted! And I'd wanted one ever since. I'm not sure this one is
a collector, though. The body's not perfectly straight and some
idiot repainted it the wrong colour before I got it. But that
engine, it just keeps going and going--going on 200K now. I can
never complain when it breaks down, it's always something simple:
a relay or a thermoswitch. I wish I could say that about my other
cars. Oh, I'm sure my day will come for bigger repairs, but not
today. Today I shall just rejoice in the knowledge that others
are as enamored as I am.
