What Alternator is it?  Bosch or Motorola?  If it's a Motorola there's not
much you can do.  I just got a 90 amp Bosch alternator from an Audi,  I used
some of the spacers from other alternators and now have the right spacing.
The only trouble is the top bracket for it.
