My last sciricco had a trailer hitch and I think the prev owner put it on 
to simply protect the rear bumper from nimrods who use the "touch" method 
when parking or are too fat to actually turn around when going in 
reverse. That was one mighty bent and dinged-up hitch but the bumper was 
scratch free.
