I am fairly sure that its more expensive to turn a 1.8 into a 2.0,
your best bet would be to get a low mileage 2.0 shortblock from
a passat (did GTI's have 2.0?) and bolt your 1.8 head to it. a
good shortblock can be anywhere from $500-$800. As for complete
engines, I just saw an ad in a recent EC and the aircooled engine
guru GEX has 2.0 16v, http://www.gexintl.com/ and I am sure some
of the other tuners have them (TT Autotech?) I am user a turn-key
2.0 16v from one of them will cost ALOT. The cheapest way is
a used 2.0 short block for sure, if one does all the work theirself
it can be kept under 1000 (I think).
