Auto Responder:
Thank you for your response to or inquiry of CARveat Emptor. However, we
are receiving so many positive responses that we are unable to personalize
our responses for every posting.
Thank you for supporting our effort and opportunity to share our auto deal
mistakes so that others might avoid them, and thanks for sharing your
ideas, suggestions, comments, critiques, and your favorite dealer or
mechanic tricks...they have helped us and our friends considerably...
Thanks for your response to CARveat Emptor -- the home page that is
changing the way America buys and sells cars (and its about time). From
the responses we are receiving, the overwhelming majority of you favor
regulating the auto industry similar to the way we regulate the real estate
industry. Afterall, the median price of an American home is around
$100,000, while a lifetime of car ownership and operation costs can total
over $400,000 for an average automobile. We train, test and regulate real
estate agents better than we do auto dealers and mechanics. Its about time
we began to protect our families, friends and fellows from the documented
problems of the auto industry.
Of course if you feel there is no problem with the auto industry, you no
doubt will have no problem in its being regulated, for if this is not the
worst industry on earth in its treatment of customers, a little regulation
wouldn't hurt...in fact fraud, waste and abuse by the auto industry is far
costlier then would be a comprehensive program to compel the industry to
conduct itself fairly, consistently and openly -- a target to shoot for in
fair treatment of consumers...
Even Detroit has indicated that there is a major problem with dealers
treatment of consumers, as if Detroit is much better...? However, note
that Detroit has done little to fix the problems. It can fight consumer
protection laws with the excessive profits it milks from unwary consumers,
but somehow it either cannot or will not control its dealers or the ding
factors in car dealing and buying or leasing.
Like we say, the auto industry (if it has nothing to hide) should be whole
heartedly behind CARveat Emptor (actually some auto industry sites are
beginning to link CARveat Emptor to their websites -- beware the bait and
switch schemes or those would like to bamboozle you through "innocence by
association").
Really, all we are asking is fairness, and the auto industry is hard
pressed to defend itself as to why it has not sponsored or supported FAIR
CAR SALES AND SERVICE PRACTICES legislation to protect consumers,
scrupulous dealers and our national and local economies from the vagaries
and inflationary unfair, manipulative and fraudulent auto sales and service
practices which costs us tens of billions of dollars every year.
Help protect America's family values, demand FAIR CAR SALES AND SERVICE
PRACTICES from your local, state and national governments today, and invite
your family and friends to join the FAIR CAR SALES AND SERVICE PRACTICES
team.
Again, if the auto industry has nothing to hide, why is it hiding its
unfair, manipulative and fraudulent practices which cost Americans billions
of dollars every year? And why have consumers permitted this situation to
continue unanswered.
Cheers, happy motoring, wheeling and dealing, virtually and really.
Remember to contract your local, state and national government
representatives today to demand FAIR CAR SALES AND SERVICE PRACTICES
legislation to protect our families from the sham in the auto industry,
unless you like the unchecked risk of buying undisclosed damaged goods or
experiencing the many other sham factors in the auto deal as some test of
your existential Darwinian metal...
If you have asked a specific question regarding one or another of the many
issues involving buying, leasing or repairing an automobile, suggestions,
ideas or considerations may be available from one or another of the several
references we have prepared in CARveat Emptor's Consumer Resources
page...consider going back and checking out these references. You will
have to do the work, and of course, you are on your own, until we get
government on our sides to help level the car deal playing field...are you
doing your part to help repair the dings in the Great American Car Deal.
Demand fairness in car sales and service practices today...
We wish you the best of luck and satisfaction on your next car deal or
lease...
Some responses we've received go like this:
"Loved your stuff. I'm a small dealer in Florida, and this industry needs
more spotlights shining on it. Amazing how much nonsense goes on. Keep it
up."
"Thanks for the straight shooting about the car industry. Finally someone
has put it all together in one place. And, what a sorry legacy it is."
"Indeed, why do we just put up with this industry? The smart thing for car
buyers to do, even those folks who just have to have that hot pretty little
shiny new car, is to pay as little as possible for it. A good deal is
still an American family value. Thanks again for your good and selfless
efforts."
"Finally someone says it all in one place about the automobile scam. We are
writing our letter to fix this situation tonight." Here's a contribution to
your effort, keep up the great work. We're telling everyone we know about
you and your fabulous home page.
"Good job. Keep up the good work. The industry will be made better by
your efforts. And don't listen to the garbage from the peanut gallery."
"Dealers and manufacturers must really like you guys. Keep up the good
work, and don't let your page die. Here's $25.00, we'd send more but this
is all we can afford as we paid too much for our last car deal."
"Why hasn't anyone thought of this before, and why didn't we check you out
before we got dinged on our last deal. Please write a book, it would sell
itself. If everyone simply put your ideas into practice the car people
would be made to be fairer. Thanks for your very helpful information."
PS: Be careful buying from the internet...sight unseen...and watch out for
car stock churned from submerged sights in the midwest and south after the
big storms...keep those images in mind, about those cars in Kentucky and
Tennessee, all under water up to their roofs...CARveat Emptor...
