Death trap(frozen throttle cable)
Hey guys & gals,
I have a question for ya thats been hounding me since last winter(my first
winter with the car). Every time it gets cold, my cars gas pedal gets
really hard to press and sticks. Last year it was tollerable, and was not
dangerous, just took a little getting used to when shifting, but this year
the problem has reared its ugly head once again. The reason it took so long
to show up, is due to el nino. It has been quite warm here untill just
after new years. It went down to about -20 to -30 C(all i can say that that
is very cold F). So i didn't drive the car for a week or two since the cold
and snow hit. I took the car out today, and when i got it going it was
fine, but the gas pedal got progresivley worse. At about 5 minuts into the
test drive, i couldn't even push the gas pedal 1/4 of the way down with out
the engine reving up, and sticking for about 2-4 seconds. I'd have to get my
foot underneath and manually pull it back up to idle position.
this is horible, there is now way i can drive the car to school in
the morning. i've got it resting in the garage right now, warming itself up.
does anybody have any tips on how i can eliminate the problem??
Heres a run down, car: 87 16V
only occurs when temp below freezing.
Does not seem to have to do with throttle body or linkage,
just the pedal and cable itself.
i am tempted to just install a new throttle cable and see what
happens, but i'd wrather get the professionals opinions first.(thats you guys)
Thanks a tonne in advance.
