K-nockin' is the reason you need knock sensor retardation of the timing. It
is mostly ( only ) found on the higher compresion engines; those that are
10:1. Most don't have it, if you have it you should already know.

Look on the front of the engine for a little black plastic device. It will
have wires running into it. It is mounted between cyls 2 and 3, I think.
