no it isn't, turns out it WAS the belt.  i had checked the belt 3 days
ago when it chirped a little bit, and it seemed fine.  so naturally i
assumed the belt was fine.  nope, i checked it again today and it was
floppin all over the place....

diagnosis:  idiocy
