Re: how do you guys pass inspection? was RE:PVC hose



Our cars pass smog tests with flying colors with no cats. I have some test results
somewhere for an '84 Scirocco with no cat... I'll post them if people want, but I
think it was somebody on this list. Cars actually emit fewer ozone depletents
without catalytic converters. Cats heat up really hot, causing chemical reactions
that can only happen during intense heat, like the formation of sulfer dioxide, a
primary ozone depletent. Cats are mostly to reduce particulates, which are a
problem in the city. If your car is burning cleanly and tuned correctly, you
shouldn't be emitting them anyway. I take off my catalytic converter with a clean
conscience.
