RE: Questions from a new guy
Congrats on the new scirocco! I've got a few possible answers for
you...
1: That hole in the bottom of the spare tire well is there by design.
It's to allow the water that gets in to drain out. :) However, mine
leaks a bit of water into the left rear corner, near where the little
light in the hatch is, and I think it's due to a crunchy seal around the
hatch. It isn't rusting anything, and it's a small amount of water, so
I'm not spending a lot of time looking at it. However, the hole you
duct-taped over is supposed to be there.
2: My wiper motor was slow as well. So slow that I thought it was
failing, and I replaced it. The new one was slow as well. :) All I can
suggest for this is to CLEAN it. When I took mine out of the car, it
was coated in dirt and grime, as it had never been removed or cleaned.
Cleaning it might get some more speed out of it, but I don't think
'Roccos ever had fast wiper motors. However, if you want a faster
motor, you can convert to a single wiper assembly, which DOES cover the
entire windshield faster than my old double-wiper system did.
3: Sounds like either the nozzles are plugged (clean them out with a
needle or safety pin), the lines to the nozzles are clogged (disconnect
carefully, and blow out with compressed air) or the pump from the
reservoir is failing. (replace the pump. I've got a spare one.)
4: When you say Button, is this the button on the end of the indicator
stalk, or the button on the gauge face right next to the MFA? If it's a
button on the end of your indicator stalk, the button contacts may have
gone bad. If it's the button on the gauge face, you probably just have
the clock, and not the whole MFA.
Again, congrats on the new 'Rocco, and hope you continue to enjoy it!
