I have loose cut, and it looks really nice--right after it's been
vacuumed.  It tends to mash a bit underfoot.  But, when I go to
recarpet, I'll probably go the same route--it's like black paint: 
looks like hell when it's dirty, but sooooo sweet when it's just
gotten detailed!
