Scirocco babble

Hi everyone,

Just some miscellaneous ramble because I'm bored. I got back from the
bodyshop a bit ago, after seeing my car in the primer state. They have
done a fantastic job on it, and it actually looks like a new car. That
is, as new as a car can look in primer. Basically, I had all the exterior
trim and glass removed (and I do mean everything), the car completely
stripped, sandblasted, any rust fixed properly (metal welded in, no
bondo), and the colour I have chosen is a really nice pearl silver
(actually a stock Jaguar colour). I almost cried when I looked down the
side of the body ... no ripples or dents; just pure virgin body work, like
Karmann meant it to be.

Slight body modifications include the 16v roof mount antenna, no emblems
on the back deck, no black tape on the rear decklid and pillars, and black
stoneguard along the lower rockers. I also decided not to put the 16
valve body kit on; why make it look faster when I can spend the money
elsewhere and actually make it go faster? Actually, I confess ... I like
the car without the body kit better than with it. Gives it a bit more of
a "Delorian" look. And it looks great without the tape; I'm going to have
them re-attach the "Karmann" emblems on the side, though, as we still do
owe some homage to Karmann.

Anyways, I will have plenty of pics up on my website when I get it back.
I am counting the hours until Wednesday night, when I can pick it up and
drool all over the place.

By the way, just in case anyone is wondering ... the entire body job is
costing me $1200 Canadian. Cash. (yes, that's the under-the-table tye of
cash, where you don't pay tax, and you don't get a receipt.) The guy who
runs the shop is a good friend of the family ... that really helps!

Cheers,
