The 87 16v I bought from a dealer had a radio that said "SAFE" when
you turned it on, courtesy of the security code problem. Apparently the
previous owner took his fancy CD player with him and jammed the original
back in. I called one of the VW dealers in town and they said its no
charge to reset the code. Only problem seems to be that if they cant
get the radio out with whatever special VW tools they use you have to
get the radio out yourself. Just make sure you do the job right the
first time.
Now about the Heidelberg question... Did Blaupunkt make ALL of the
factory radios in Sciroccos/VW's ? Which leads me to ask what's the
name of mine? As a sidenote, a friend of mine recently bought a
mid-80's Mazda 626 which came with a standard Blaupunkt, but tagged with
the hideous name "Malibu". I'd much rather have a "Heidelberg", or at
least anything not named Malibu!
