My 2c worth would be to check when the oil pump was last replaced.Oil pumps
should be replaced every 100K,although as it wears,it doesn't lift enough oil
up to the lifters.I had a similar problem with my 8v,I changed the oil pump
and problem went away.I should also add that in the Haynes manual it states
that tappet/lifter noise is very common in all Scirocco models and should only
be replaced when noise becomes severe,so basically get used to the noise and
if it gets worse,get it checked out.

	The above sounds good.  My 2¢ worth was just gonna be to check the level
	and condition of the oil.  I know it sounds too simple, but are you 
using a
	kind that your car likes?  And what are the other occasions that it 
makes
	this noise on?
