Your reverse light switch (which also houses the 5'th gear switch) is bad.
It bolts into the the top of the transmission on the drivers side.
They're kind of 'spensive, like 40 bucks or so. You can either yank the
relay in position 4 of the relay panel (which oddly enough has a big white
"5" painted on it) to disable the upshift light, buy a new switch, or, if
you're good at reverse engineering, disassemble and clean the old switch
contacts. I did this, it works fine now.
