The list.....

85-87 GTI / GLI 8v's had rear disc's
87-92 GTI 16v's / GLI 16v's had rear disc's 
The half ass 8v GTI 90-92 had 200mm rear drums & 9.4 solid front 
rotors.  Since all GTI's from 88-89 were ALL 16v's the last year for a 
8v with rear disc's is 87.
