Well as some of you knew I was seriously attempting to do the
G60-->Scirocco project. I've bought all the misc parts, gathered
all the tech procedures, sucked a lot of people's IQ, and got a lot
of serious leads on G60 blocks and SC....but now I'm balking.
Why??
1> It's going to be a big pain in the ass..not only for myself but
for the only shop I feel confident in doing this swap. Rewiring
a completely different feul management system, relocating 90%
the engine components...that's a lot of labor. I'm in Texas..there
isn't dick out there for VW watercooled high performance.
2> Total HP..at stage 3 I'll be able to get..say 220 MAX, this is
using my friends '90 G60 Stage 3 maxed out engine..there's nothing
more he can do except go to the EIP head ($$$)..well or go with a
reworked G60 to output higher..maybe 250 then.($$$)
So what am I going to do? Well my new plan of attack...
Go with a 2.0L or 2.1L high performance 8v Long block...either
purchased from a reputable tuner or bought used and completely
reworked to bullitproof. Get a low compression, install Schrick
cam, large TB, large manifold,chip etc...and Turbo the bastard. I'm working
with the numbers..out of the block..170 + performance improvements
listed above + misc ones should net me almost 200..then adding a
turbo I should be around anywhere from 250-300 depending on how much
money I have to spend.
Cost?
I'm thinking both will end up about the same cost..either way
I'll have to have the engine rebuilt to a high performance..but
instead of spending all the money on labor to install the G60, I'll
put it to a turbo system..that will be a drop in shot = low labor.
Oh and remeber this is a show car..I don't plan on putting over 1000
miles on this baby a year..all I want to know is that anyday I can
take the car out..stomp onthe pedal and get all that HP I paid for.
..and smoke a rice boy in the process =]
any comments, slams, kicks in the ass?

ps. I will still be using some of the parts so all is not lost, like
the larger radiator, IC, awesome downpipe and a few other things.
