The base 85-87 (88?) Golf/Jetta/Fox 1.8's (code GX) had 38mm inlet valves
vs the 40mm "GTI" heads used on the scirroccos and cabrios of that period
- hence hp diff.
obviously the 10:01 knock sensor equiped 1.8 on the 8v GTi and GT are
another story . . .
By the way the 77 Scirocco (U.S. 1.6) had 82hp, yet every chart (EC)
shows it as 78hp.
I know 82 is correct.
