Both rubber gaskets around my '86 and '87 have dryrotted away so
I called the local dealer and ordered 2 at like $1.50 apiece. This is
a quick and easy job that will keep moisture and gunk out of your
hatch lock..prolonging it's life and useability.
1> open hatch, remove 2 screws securing the latch mechanism to the
hatch.
2> disconenct the locking mechanism hook from the lock and set aside
3> use a thin phillips and remove the 2 screws securing the lock to
the hatch..through the hole you just opened up be removing the latch
mechanism. It will fall down a little into the hatch allowing you to
remove what's left of your old gasket and any grime that's built up.
4> slip the new gasket on..no need for petrol jelly or anything it's
a perfect fit.
5> push the lock back up through the gasketed hole slowly, align the
screw holes and reattach lock to hatch.
6> reconnect latch mechanism to the lock and sercure to hatch.
yer done! =]
