RE: (Fwd) Re: American headlight spruce-up
I'm pretty sure I've seen the wheels at issue here; the style has often been
referred to as the "turbine" look in earlier years, and is basically numerous
thin "spokes" radially emanating from the hub ($.05 for all who refrain from
giving me any s*** about using the phrase "radially emanating"; I really
couldn't help myself!). They're painted that silver that the good ol'
Scirocco 9-spokes get painted, and yes, they were seen on Quantums.
On a quasi-related note, anyone know if the offset for the "Orlando" wheel
appearing on lots of A3s is A1-friendly?

Mine cost me $350 US at 108K miles. Not too shabby huh?

Mine have no black paint, they're all alloy. I do have a plain black
plastic VW cap in the center.

It says Wolfsburg on it :) Actually, there's a little badge on both
front fenders behind the front wheel. It's a model they sell
with special deals on option packages. They all say Karmann on the
side posts (unless the glue dries out and the plastic falls off).
Karmann (I think) was the guy who used to design the bodies, think
he's dead now. There's a lot of good places to read about stuff like
that on the net, do a search for VW. www.vw.com has some nice
history stuff on it too. I think it was someone else who did the
Corrado and maybe Scirocco too. I know that info's on the web
somewhere. If you can't find it, post to the list asking for info.
Someone there will have the links.
